  • the targeting: validation of Team for the Planet scope of action higher than 90% => 0,5 point + innovation level of maturity is enough => 0,5 point
  • social acceptability: semantic analysis score of comments > 0 => 0,5 point/ if > 3500 => 1 point

What is the issue addressed?

More than 90% of the organic matter is held by farmers who do not have an adapted and profitable solution to produce biogas. Indeed, their potential biogas production is too low, and they are located far from the gas networks (only 25% of the communes currently connected in France). The biomass deposit, which can generate 150 TWh of energy (1/3 of our current fossil gas consumption), remains largely untapped. The heavy mobility sector does not have solutions for decarbonizing in the short term, despite increasing regulatory constraints. Yet the transport sector represents 31% of GHG emissions in France and 25% worldwide. Finally, less than 1% of installed biogas plants capture the CO2 present in the biogas. On a European scale, this represents a potential of 160 million tons of CO2 captured from the atmosphere.

How is the problem solved?

In a country like France, which already has a dense gas network, only 25% of the communes are connected to the network and almost half of the biomass (67 TWh potential - ENEA Elengy study) is located more than 5km away and, therefore, difficult to exploit. The problem is identical in most agricultural countries (Germany, Italy, California...) where there is a real problem of mismatch between the potential production and consumption of biogas. Thanks to a unique biogas liquefaction technology, SUBLIME Energie is able to exploit previously inaccessible biomass deposits to produce bioNGL and capture bioCO2. Its biogas liquefaction technology allows for the establishment of an efficient transportation network for liquefied biogas. By 2032, 1 million tons of bioCO2 and 580tons of bioNGL will be produced, enough to fuel 20,000 trucks.

What is the customer target?

SUBLIME Energie sells equipment and maintenance to project companies for the collection, transportation, purification, and production of biomethane and bioCO2. These project companies are co-capitalized by SUBLIME Energie, infrastructure funds (signed LoI), and farmers wishing to be associated. The bioGNL is sold to road and maritime transporters (several brands of interest and LoI). The bioCO2 is sold to consumers for agri-food needs (greenhouse) or for new uses, such as the production of biomethanol for heavy maritime transport (several brands of interest and LoI). The development of 107 projects is planned for the next 10 years. 40 projects are already covered by letters of intent signed or under discussion with agricultural actors.

How is this solution different?

SUBLIME Energie has the only technology in the world to transport raw biogas efficiently. It allows the capture of methane and CO2 at the farm and mutualizes the costs of biogas purification to produce bioGNL and bioCO2. Without the SUBLIME Energie technology, biomass located far from gas networks or on farms too small to invest in a biogas purifier cannot be valorized. Our technology makes it possible to democratize on-farm methanization in order to: - capture methane emissions from liquid manure. An important part of the methane from manure is produced in the first 48 to 72 hours, hence the importance of anaerobic digestion as soon as possible (lower GHG emissions on the farm, higher energy production per ton of material) - produce an organic fertilizer (digestate) that replaces chemical fertilizers (lower GHG emissions on the farm, soil decontamination, lower production of fossil fertilizers, savings for the farmer). - provide stable additional income to farmers over the long term with the sale of the energy produced. Our solution makes anaerobic digestion financially accessible: the farmer only invests in an anaerobic digester adapted to his farm (recoverable from existing works/pits; integration on the existing farm) and has a long-term contract for the sale of the biogas produced.
