What is the issue addressed?

In France, 40 million tons of waste are not recycled and are sent to incineration and landfill yearly because of the lack of other viable solutions. This generates about 30 million tons of CO2, pollutant emissions, material loss, energy deficit, and dependence on fossil fuels.

How is the problem solved?

CRYMIROTECH has developed a new robust recycling process using catalysts in the form of ionic liquids. This technology, based on the 12 principles of green chemistry, enables the recycling of up to 100% of the currently non-recovered mixed waste into primary raw materials that can be reused by industry.

What is the customer target?

The process enables the recycling of mixed waste from local authorities (e.g., waste sorting, CSR) or from industrial activities (e.g., plastics, textiles). The raw materials produced are reused by the chemical/petrochemical industry.

How is this solution different?

Our technology enables us to recycle all types of waste mixtures, unlike competing processes that are limited to polyesters (depolymerization) or common plastics (simple pyrolysis). We also reduce the energy consumption of primary raw material production by 80% thanks to our catalysts and by a more targeted reinjection into the customer's facilities.

Scientific Committee opinion

Il est unanime que l'innovation est très intéressante car elle participe à deux challenges : le recyclage des déchets et le remplacement des énergies fossiles dans la fabrication de matériaux. Le fait de pouvoir traiter des mélanges de déchets constitue indéniablement un avantage concurrentiel certain et répond à une problématique réelle du secteur. Notons également des atouts en matière d’externalités dans la mesure où la substitution de l'incinération et de l'enfouissement par Crymirotech présente des avantages sur la pollution atmosphérique et le risque de pollution des sols. Le projet est en phase très amont (validation à l’échelle laboratoire mais pas encore de prototype industriel ou de pilote en conditions réelles) et l’innovateur seul dans sa structure. Le Comité scientifique a ainsi logiquement signalé des points de vigilance concernant le passage à l’échelle du procédé, la maîtrise de l’ensemble de la chaîne de valeur ou encore la compétitivité prix par rapport aux solutions de pyrolyse classiques concurrentes. Enfin concernant l’analyse de cycle de vie (ACV), fabriquer l'équipement et transporter les déchets ne semblent pas causer d'émissions supplémentaires notables (à valider via une ACV complète).
