Releaf Paper is a materials technology company turning fallen urban leaves into a scalable alternative to virgin wood fibre. Our patented process converts locally collected leaf waste into fibres and fillers that can be used in paper and packaging production. The material integrates into existing paper mills and converting lines, allowing manufacturers to reduce their dependence on forest-based raw materials without changing their core equipment or processes. Releaf addresses two climate challenges at once: the inefficient management of urban green waste and the growing demand for wood-based packaging. Our asset-light model enables rapid replication through existing industrial infrastructure, creating local circular supply chains with the potential to scale across cities and paper markets globally.

The shift from plastic to paper packaging is increasing demand for virgin fibre but often transfers environmental pressure to forests. Trees that take decades to grow are used to produce packaging that may serve its purpose for only a few minutes. Meanwhile, cities spend heavily managing fallen leaves as waste, despite their potential to become a renewable industrial feedstock for paper production.

Releaf has created a new industrial feedstock for paper: cellulose-rich fibres and fillers produced from urban leaves. Our patented technology separates and refines the usable fibre fraction, creating a drop-in material that replaces part of virgin wood pulp while running through existing paper mills and converting lines. This allows Releaf to scale globally through current industrial infrastructure, decoupling the growth of paper packaging from forest extraction while turning a recurring municipal waste stream into a valuable local resource.

Releaf has progressed from technology validation to repeat B2B commercialisation, generating more than €800,000 in revenue in 2025 and supplying materials and finished products to international brands, paper producers, converters and packaging partners. Our strongest commercial implementation is with Uber Eats and Uber Portier B.V. In 2024, Releaf supplied approximately 130,000 delivery bags with a commercial value of €53,000. This was followed by a second order of 160,000 bags in 2025 worth €63,144.05. In total, approximately 290,000 Releaf bags were distributed to more than 100 restaurants across Paris, representing €116,144.05 in documented commercial cooperation. The repeat order validated product performance, direct restaurant adoption and integration into existing food-delivery procurement workflows. Other representative non-confidential commercial cases include: • Weleda: branded retail carrier bags for cosmetics distribution. • Samsung: branded paper carrier bags for retail applications. • Schneider Electric: customised bags for corporate gifts and events. • Logitech: leaf-paper boxes for computer keyboards and e-commerce distribution. • Biobiene Deutschland: corrugated product boxes for e-commerce applications. • Chanel: premium wrapping paper for fashion and cosmetics products. • LVMH and Louis Vuitton: customised notebooks and premium paper products for corporate gifts and events. • Pernod Ricard: customised paper and packaging applications for wine and spirits, including retail, gifting and brand communication. • Toyota: customised leaf-paper products for corporate, promotional and event applications. • MUM: customised branded paper and packaging products. • BNP Paribas: printed editions of the “myImpact” responsible-investment magazine. • Ptashkin Sad: retail and e-commerce envelopes for dry shampoo products. • Private-label wine and footwear brands: customised paper products, wine packaging and shoe boxes for retail and e-commerce. On the industrial side, Releaf has worked with DS Smith on testing and developing leaf-fibre paper for scalable packaging applications. Industrial paper production has also been validated with Norpaper, while further product development and conversion trials have involved partners including Canson, ESKA and RDM. These projects demonstrate traction across the complete value chain, from leaf-fibre and filler production to papermaking, printing, converting and finished packaging. Releaf has already delivered bags, boxes, wrapping paper, envelopes, notebooks, publications and other branded products across food delivery, cosmetics, luxury, electronics, automotive, finance, beverages and e-commerce.

Inwiefern differenziert sich diese Lösung von anderen?

Releaf is differentiated by both its feedstock and technological output. Unlike many residue-based papers, where biomass is mainly added as a filler, our patented process recovers functional paper-grade fibres as well as fillers, enabling real substitution of virgin wood pulp. Producing one tonne of Releaf paper valorises approximately 2.5 tonnes of fallen leaves and replaces the wood-fibre equivalent of up to 17 trees. Fallen leaves regenerate naturally every year and are already collected by cities, so our model requires no cultivation, agricultural land or competition for feedstock. The resulting materials integrate into existing paper mills, converting lines and recycling streams, enabling asset-light replication through local hubs and established industrial partners.
